At a recent site visit held at the Bangladesh Market (16/01/2009), hosted by Business Solutions Africa (BSA), an introduction to the concept of the Bangladesh Market website was facilitated. A group of delegates were asked to visit the Bangladesh market to gain a better understanding behind the inspiration for the website.
One Of Durban’s Most Eclectic Markets
By visiting the market and experiencing the energy and vibrancy from one of Durban’s foremost robust and eclectic markets, the rationale behind the need for a website and why it was created was immediately understood and supported. Among the guests asked to attend was:
- eThekwini Municipality Deputy Mayor Logie Naidoo,
- Akhona Ngcobo, from eThekwini Agri Business,
- Melissa O’Rielly, from eThekwini Agri Business,
- Lungile Ndladla, from eThekwini Agri Business,
- Bongiwe Mkhize, from eThekwini Municipality,
- Russell Curtis, the CEO of Dipa (Durban Investment Promotion Agency),
- Shooks Dorasamy, regional manager of Internet Solutions for KZN.

This consortium was selected in order to obtain feedback from different public and private sectors that could potentially partner and support the Bangladesh Market website in their own capacity. The introduction provided the group with a greater understanding of the enormous exposure and development that a dedicated online presence can bring to the market and the stallholders as well. For many of the invitees it was their first time visiting the market, and they each left with a unique experience that only Bangladesh Market can evoke. This is the exact reason that a hidden treasure like Bangladesh Market needs to be given every opportunity to expand and develop; it has so much to offer, not only to international tourists, but local tourists as well.
Uniquely South African Experience
This website is the definitive platform that the market needs in order to further establish and develop its reputation and existence as a uniquely South African experience. The site visit established within the minds of all those that attended, that Bangladesh Market is a gem and needs to be promoted and further developed in any way. Technology is the natural next step to attaining this vision of both local and global exposure.
